5 Queer-Inclusive Halloween Films We Love
Queer culture has not typically been represented in horror films. However, many scary movies contain queer undertones. Queer-inclusive films not only represent the LGBTQ+ community, but they also achieve cult followings.
At FairyTales Presentation Society we know a thing or two about film! Here are 5 queer-inclusive Halloween films that we love:
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
This is a classic queer movie. Not only was it unafraid to introduce a transvestite main character, this epic film also explores homosexual character relationships.
ParaNorman is the first major animated film to feature an openly gay character. The creators wanted to knock gender stereotypes out of the park and introduce audiences to LGBTQ+ culture.
Bride of Frankenstein
Queer critics have long been enamored with Bride of Frankenstein. The film’s queer director incorporates gay nuances throughout the film, as well as casting openly gay main characters.
Interview With the Vampire
Although not as overt in the movie, the novel Interview With the Vampire features a romantic relationship between the two main characters. This film is beloved by the gay community for bringing to light the idea that sexuality is not binary.
Seed of Chucky
Seed of Chucky mixes humour, horror, and gender relations all in one. The film brings up the topic of a character being bi-gender and how society views the subject.
