    FAIRYTALES PRESENTATION SOCIETY'S OUTREELS PROGRAM

    What is OUTReels?

Through the OUTReels program we bring films specifically chosen with you, to inspire conversation on topics such as homophobia and bullying, the intersection of homosexuality and the bible, and same-sex families. This program creates a forum for discussion that will stimulate, inspire and foster compassion through understanding.

Why do we need a program such as OUTReels?

    • Three-quarters of LGBTQ students feel unsafe in at least one place at school, such as change rooms, washrooms, and hallways. Half of straight students agree that at least one part of their school is unsafe for LGBTQ students.

    • LGBTQ students were more likely than non-LGBTQ individuals to report that staff never intervened when homophobic comments were made.

    • Six out of ten LGBTQ students reported being verbally harassed about their sexual orientation.

    • One in four LGBTQ students had been physically harassed about their sexual orientation.

    • Three-quarters of LGBTQ students and 95% of transgender students felt unsafe at school, compared to one-fifth of straight students.

All statistics compliments of Egale Canada (www.egale.ca)

     What will OUTReels do?

    • We will bring LGBTQ films to your group/organization/classroom to stimulate discussion around queer issues.
    • We will help identify LGBTQ educational issues that your community/classroom will benefit from.
    • We will help determine a film to stimulate discussion on that issue.
    • We will provide the film, and equipment for the screening on a by-needs basis.
    • We will help you develop a post film discussion with a guest speaker or facilitator if needed, to meet your learning objectives.

    What will you do?

    • Provide the venue for the screening and equipment if you have it.
    • Publicize the event, ensuring your group/organization knows about the screening.
    • Liaise with our team on all other components of the screening.

For information about our films, and about hosting a screening, please contact Melody Jacobson at outreach@fairytalesfilmfest.com

OUTReels is funded by our generous Donor:
