Miguel is a handsome, young and beloved fisherman in Cabo Blanco, a small fishing village in the Northern coast of Peru, where the community has deep-rooted religious traditions. Miguel is married to the beautiful Mariela, who is 7-months pregnant with their firstborn. All is not picture perfect however as Miguel harbors a scandalous secret: he is having a love affair with another man, Santiago, a painter who is ostracized by the townsfolk for being agnostic and open about being gay. After a tragic accident occurs, Miguel must choose between sentencing Santiago to eternal torment or doing right by him and, in turn, revealing their relationship to Mariela—and the entire village.

(Contracorriente) UNDERTOW is the emotional intersection of contemporary sexuality, confronted by tradition and belief. This sexy and redolent love story is the feature film debut of Javier Fuentes-León and stars a sizzling international cast. Strikingly photographed to accentuate the majestic Peruvian coastline, this sexy, haunting love story transcends place and time.

Argentinean director Marco Berger repurposes the conventions of a Shakespeare-styled comedy in his clever, witty and poetic feature film debut. When Bruno is dumped by his girlfriend he hides behind his usual calm, indifferent expression, but beneath his polished and playful exterior his mind plans a cold, sweet revenge. Unknowingly his ex-girlfriend keeps on seeing him once in a while and even confides in him about her new boyfriend named Pablo. Bruno befriends Pablo, with the idea of eroding the couple, even conniving to introduce him to another woman. But, along the way, the possibility of a plan B arises, a more effective plan, one that puts Bruno’s own sexuality into question. A beautifully shot reflection on male foibles and friendships, PLAN B is grounded in two outstanding performances from Manuel Vignau and Lucas Ferraro.With an amusing twist at the end, this modern-day love story set among the rooftop terraces, gyms and apartments of contemporary Buenos Aires will appeal to anyone with a wry sense of humour.
