Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival 2011
13th Annual Festival • May 26 - June 3, 2011
• DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS •
March 7, 2011 (no submission fee)
Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival invites you to join us for the 13th annual celebration of queer film and video from around the world. Fairy Tales hosts the largest queer film festival in Alberta with audience numbers over 2000 patrons per year, with programming highlighting the diversity of gay, lesbian, bisexual, two-spirited and transgendered film and video making in documentary, shorts and features.
Our 2010 Festival screened more than 60 works from 25 countries. Highlights in 2010 included Fig Trees by renowned Canadian Director John Greyson, the hilarious musical documentary The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls by Leanne Pooley, best feature of the festival, (Contracorriente) Undertow by Javier Fuentes-Leon, best documentary of the festival, Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride by Canada’s own Bob Christie, and short films from all over the world such as After Lunch by Rodrigo Diaz Diaz.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
1. We will accept screening DVDs in PAL formats but prefer to receive DVD (Region 0 or Region 1 NTSC) for preview. DO NOT send master tapes or original film prints for preview screening. Please ensure that DVDs submitted are not defective and pack them so they are not damaged in the mail, as filmmakers will not be contacted for resubmission in the event that the preview DVD is damaged.
2. Acceptable screening formats for the Festival are 35mm, BETA SP (NTSC), DigiBeta (NTSC) and HD. Festival screenings on DVD are not desirable. Please indicate clearly on the submission form if DVD is the only format available for the festival. Please note that Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival pays for outgoing print traffic costs only.
3. Works submitted in languages other than English must be subtitled or accompanied by an English transcript.
4. Fairy Tales DOES accept films submitted via internet links or video sharing websites such as Vimeo as we encourage filmmakers to decrease their personal costs in whatever way possible. We do request that should filmmakers submit their film using a link that someone is available to troubleshoot concerns should there be issues in viewing the link. If submitting films via email please email a link and completed submission form to: programming@fairytalesfilmfest.com.
5. Preview DVDs must be labeled with the title, running time and contact information (including name, address, phone number and email). See the submission form for details.
6. If you are sending work from outside Canada, please write the following on your package: “For Cultural Purposes only. No commercial value. No Pornographic Content.” Please declare less than $20 value on the package to avoid customs duties (Fairy Tales will not pay customs fees and will send the package back).
7. Please be advised that the festival will not pay courier or customs fees to receive preview DVDs and should the organization be requested to do so, the package will be returned.
8. Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival reserves the right to excerpt programmed works (up to 3 minutes) along with photographic stills for promotional and marketing purposes.
9. All submissions must be received by March 7th, 2011.
10. All preview DVDs will be added to the Fairy Tales archives unless accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope (for submissions from outside Canada please use International Postal stamps) and a request for return. Screening copies of films will not be returned unless accompanied by stamped envelope.
11. To submit more than one work, please make a copy of the submission form for each entry.
12. DO NOT send press kits or any media materials with your submission. They will not be considered with your submission. Media and promotional materials will be requested upon confirmation of the screening of the film at the festival. The only requirements for submission are the one-page submission form and the DVD (properly labeled) or link.
THE NEW SUBMISSION FORM WILL BE AVAILABLE HERE IN LATE JULY OF 2010
